The Ministry of the Commonwealth is a ministry of the Vekllei Government.
The Ministry of the Commonwealth (COSMOCOM) administers federal organisations that require coordination at a national level and are not subordinated to Commonwealth Parliaments. It primarily establishes standards for industry, commerce and the civil service, and provides national stewardship to otherwise devolved and decentralised ministerial organisations. Responsibilities include:
- Establishing and auditing professional qualifications and accreditation in line with Commonwealth standards
- Developing and enforcing standards in technical, industrial and administrative functions of the federal government
- Training and maintaining the civil service workforce through the Commonwealth School of Public Service
- Coordinating government-owned corporations and overseeing state enterprise governance
- Conducting economic and policy research for the Mandatory Ecclesia and State Secretaries
- Administering elections, referendums and the Commonwealth electoral roll
The ministry’s responsibilities go both ways with the Commonwealth Parliaments – COSMOCOM ensures domestic compliance with Commonwealth policy and also advises parliamentary standards, since Vekllei is the largest constituent member of the Commonwealth. The ministry also coordinates SIRO, which administers the Commonwealth’s research establishments, though individual establishments are funded and directed by their relevant ministries.
The Ministry of the Commonwealth is led by its First Minister, elected from within by professional staff.
