The Bureau of Conservation is part of the Ministry of Landscape.
The Bureau of Conservation administers protected natural areas and conservation programmes across Vekllei’s 83 republics. It has jurisdiction over designated national parks, commonwealth land reserves and sovereign natural spaces, including marine protected areas and world heritage sites. Because Vekllei spans transpolar, tropical and subtropical ecosystems, the bureau maintains an unusually wide range of habitats – from Arctic tundra in Kala to coral reefs in the Bahamas and active volcanic landscapes throughout the Atlantic islands.
The bureau is responsible for designating and managing protected areas, species protection programmes, traditional land stewardship in partnership with indigenous communities and the maintenance of world heritage sites. It has a close working relationship with the LSRE, which provides scientific basis for conservation decisions. The bureau is distinct from the Bureau of Oceans, which manages fishing rights and the exclusive economic zone, and from the Bureau of Parks & Gardens under the Ministry of the Commons, which manages urban green spaces.
