The Federal Republic of the Americas (F.R.A.) is a federal republic in Central America, occupying a continuous stretch of territory between Mexico’s southern border and Colombia, interrupted by the United States Panama Canal Zone. It incorporates the former colonial territories of the Captaincy of Guatemala and the Viceroyalty of Panama, and its population includes Spanish-speaking communities, indigenous groups, and a large number of distinct fusion cultures that developed across centuries of colonial and post-colonial settlement.
The F.R.A. is a parliamentary democracy structured around nine federal states, each with its own regional parliament and capital. The federal capital, Santa Maria, is a planned city on the isthmus west of Lake Nicaragua. The federation maintains a republican tradition and a written constitution that distributes powers between federal and state governments.
The F.R.A. trades primarily with Mexico, the US, Peru and Vekllei. Trade disputes and tensions over migration have complicated relations with Colombia and Venezuela. The Panama Canal Zone, administered by the US, divides the national territory and remains a source of dispute over transit rights and sovereignty; the F.R.A. contests US ownership of the canal under international law.
