The Philindo Maritime Republics is a confederal state spread across a large archipelago in Southeast Asia, comprising dozens of island republics bound by a federal charter that reserves substantial authority to constituent republics. It is a middle-income country with a significant industrial base and one of the larger regional navies, a practical necessity given its maritime geography. The federal government exercises limited authority over its constituent republics, and political conditions vary considerably from island to island.

The country has fought insurgencies of various kinds for most of its independent existence – some separatist, some ideological, some both. The armed forces are large and experienced, and exercise substantial political influence as a result. The Philindo Republics maintain regular elections at both federal and republic level and function as a representative democracy within these constraints.
