Kingdom of Denmark

Part of the country series of articles.

The Kingdom of Denmark is a constitutional monarchy in Western Europe, consisting of the Jutland peninsula extending north from the West German border and an archipelago of over 400 islands to the east. The majority of the country’s land area and population are in Jutland, though the capital, Copenhagen, is located on the island of Zealand.

Denmark has been an active participant in European trade since the medieval period and exercised considerable political influence across Scandinavia and the North Atlantic across several centuries. The historic Kingdom of Denmark encompassed territories now part of Vekllei, including the Aismious (Faroese) islands and parts of western Oslola.

Denmark maintains a high standard of living supported by a comprehensive welfare state. The economy is based primarily on small and medium-sized service and manufacturing enterprises, with government revenues drawn mainly from personal and corporate taxation. Agriculture, particularly dairy and pork production, remains significant, and Danish shipping and pharmaceutical industries have global reach.
