The Federal Socialist Republic of the Balkans (FSR Balkans, commonly the Balkans) is a country in southeastern Europe, extending from the Alps south to the western half of the Bosporus Strait and incorporating the city of Constantinople. It is a federal republic comprising the historic Yugoslav republics – Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and others – alongside Albania, Bulgaria and Romania. The economy is organised on market socialist principles. Politically the federation is independent of the Soviet sphere and is a significant member of the non-aligned movement alongside India and Vekllei.

The federation is ethnically diverse, and interethnic relations are administered under federal law with the executive seated in Belgrade, the legal capital in Sofia and the judicial capital in Constanta. Citizens may live and work abroad, and the country is open to Western tourism and foreign investment. The non-aligned position has allowed the federation to maintain economic and diplomatic ties with both the Soviet and Western blocs without formal alignment to either.
