The Ministry of Commerce is a ministry of the Vekllei Government.
The Ministry of Commerce (COSMOSOL) manages government financial operations and facilitates trade in Vekllei. Despite the functional moneylessness of domestic life, commerce at the federal level remains substantial – international trade, government bonds, securities markets and currency production are all coordinated through the ministry. Its constituent bureaux and statutory bodies are among the busiest in federal government. Common responsibilities include:
- Regulation and taxation of international trade, including the issuance of government bonds
- Banking and financing the Commonwealth state apparatus
- Advising the Cabinet and Parliament of Milk and Honey on economic and trade policy
- Monitoring and reporting on the health of foreign markets
- Minting and distributing the Vekllei Crown and managing the monetary supply
- Oversight of securities markets through the Commonwealth Securities Exchange
Most of the ministry’s domestic functions are conducted by the Treasury, which oversees economic planning and operates the GAIA automatic financial relay system, introduced in 2055 to manage microeconomic policy. Vekllei has a reputation as a financial capital for its political neutrality and location between Europe and the Americas, and is among the largest facilitators of international commerce and exchange in the world.
The Ministry of Commerce is led by the First Minister of Commerce, who reports to the Cabinet.
